Before Christmas, I set myself a challenge of doing 20 days of messy play. While I didn’t actually manage the whole twenty days (not sure why I thought that was possible right before Christmas?!), we did have lots of fun!
This week we’ve got a bit of a French theme going on in our play, and to tie in this with this I wanted to look at some French art with T and use it to inspire some artwork of our own. We had a look at some of Van Gogh’s work and T was […]
I’m going to go ahead and say it: I LOVE VALENTINES DAY! I’m not a particularly romantic type in general and I’d prefer yellow roses to red ones (or daffodils, or peonies) but I like having a day especially for showing my loved ones that I love them! As kids we would always have a […]
I love Autumn! I don’t think I’d ever be able to choose a favourite season as I really love them all, but in Autumn I just love the beautiful colours, the knitwear, and the run-up to Christmas! Here are a few of the Autumnal activities we’ve been enjoying. Why not give them a go at […]
I’m back! I’ve had a bit of an enforced blogging break due to lack of Internet. But we have been very busy at home enjoying the autumnal weather! Early this week we went for a stroll to our local park with the aim of collecting some of the different leaves that we saw along the way. […]
Ok, we’ve had a week of sunshine so we’ve probably not got long left, but despite that I thought I’d post a few ideas to keep your kids cool on those very hot days! Water the garden Get the hose out! Encourage your kids to help you water the plants. If you have a nozzle with different […]
It was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and I was lucky enough to be bought several bunches of flowers. Flowers are one of my favourite things to be given – having fresh flowers in the house brings me so much joy! If I had lots of money to spend I have seen some […]
Welcome to my first Top Toys post! In these posts I will be sharing my favourite toys, by age, and writing about my reasons for choosing these toys. Since T was born, I’ve always tried to think fairly carefully about which toys she would get the most out of. As a teacher, and a firm advocate of play-based […]
This week we have been doing some play based on Space! T has become interested in rockets recently and so I thought we would do a few things stemming from that. It doesn’t feel like we’ve had a whole load of time so I think we will probably continue with the theme over next week, […]
T’s become very interested in shapes recently and keeps pointing out shapes that she notices around her. I decided to get her a book about them from our local library, and she loved it so much that this week we have been bringing shape into her play! So, activity number one – reading about shapes!
